DesignExpo Portfolio
This year, employers will be previewing student portfolios prior to the event and will be selecting who they wish to meet with during two rounds of scheduled portfolio reviews.
[If you are an Animation or IDM student, please review this page for special instructions on participating in DesignExpo]
In
order to take full advantage of the structue of DesignExpo, it is recommended
that you carefully prepare your materials which should include a resume targeted for the industry you'd like to enter, a profile sheet (which we will provide to you) that outlines basic information about you, and a portfolio.
Regardless
of your major, keep the following in mind when preparing your portfolio:
- Aesthetics
are important, so make sure that your portfolio is clean, neat,
and organized.
- Demonstrate
the process(es) you used to develop your projects
and tell the story visually from conceptualization to completion.
- Demonstrate
the breadth of the design skills that you possess.
During these weeks prior to the event, it is vitally important for you to work on the material contained in your portfolio, as this will directly influence whether an employer chooses to invite you to meet with them.
It is also necessary to plan out how you will present the portfolio’s contents to employers. Due to the tight scheduling you will have with each employer who invites you for a review – roughly 15 minutes – it is essential that you make every effort to offer a polished, professional, and clear presentation of your work. We encourage you to practice your portfolio presentation by showing it to classmates, friends, faculty, or other trusted individuals in your life prior to attending the event.
To assist you as you prepare your portfolio, there are new portfolio-related resources on the Career Services website that we encourage you to review. As you will see on the following webpage (Creative/Design Portfolios) each of the resources indicate the industry to which it is most connected. It is highly encouraged, however, that you consider reviewing ALL of the employers' tips, as the advice they offer may prove useful to you as someone hoping to enter the design profession.
